London - Pubs & Bars - Pubs
If there is a better example of a local pub in London, I haven't found it in a dozen years. Hidden away in the back streets of Dartmouth Park, near Tufnell Park this is what it's all about. Full of community and people who use it as a home from home, it does great food, has a decent range of beer and a brilliantly friendly atmosphere - whether you've been going for years or it's your first time there.
It's divided into two halves with a TV in the front which shows big matches and be warned the front bar can get very busy for England, or Arsenal games. But the back bar which is focused on food is usually pretty quiet still and there is no TV in there (except during World Cups). The TV in the front bar is only on for games though so there is no constant distraction in the background. A sound decision.
The old wooden style bar, and copper food boards give it a nice authentic feel. And the bar staff are all really well chosen to make sure it keeps up its friendly reputation.
Go check it out on a long lazy Sunday with the paper and after several hours relaxing and realising its like your front room - decide to buy a house in Dartmouth Park just so its your local.
Oh and if you like cider - this place has so many its untrue.
