London - Pubs & Bars - Pubs
Another of the traditional pubs around the Borough Market area. This one is slap bang opposite the market and just down the road from the Market Porter.
It's pretty small inside, so probably not a place to visit if you have more than about 3-4 people in tow, or you are going to struggle to get all together, as it does get bus - especially in the evenings at the end of the week.
Inside it's not only traditional, but also what you might call unreconstructed! Wooden floorboards and panelling throughout the place and it looks like it could maybe do with a bit of love - but in fairness it brings it's own charm.
For the smokers amongst us, it has a handy little 'garden' out the back. I say garden, it's very concrete and not very green and also very small - but has room for a few tables out the back, and is handy for fans of the 'evil weed' if you don't fancy the occasional lottery of potential getting flattened by drivers steaming past the market out the front.
It has a couple of TVs in here for showing sport, and shows most things. Indeed it was the only pub I could find in SE1 showing the Rugby World Cup 3rd vs 4th place play-off between Argentina and France last year. And although busy for a Liverpool Champions league game it was friendly in there - TV's are pretty small though, so it's a bit like having 100 people come round your house to watch the match (and bring their own bar..)
Generally a good atmosphere and a good place for a tete a tete early in the week, as it has a fair amount of seating around.
